Suriname travel – safety tips

Posted by

·

If you’re here, reading this, you must be thinking about either traveling to Suriname or you live here and you’re tired of waiting on others to go out and explore our beautiful country.

When I go on trips I always go alone and even when I do stuff in or near the city, most of the time I’m alone. So let me help you navigate Suriname safely & all by yourself.

What NOT to do:

  • Walking around with camera’s or cellphones around your neck
  • Leave your bag unattended
  • Openly flaunt your cash, electronics or jewelry
  • Walking around with your eyes glued to your phone (pay attention to your surroundings)
  • Talking to strangers, unless spoken to (or asked a question)
  • Giving the homeless anything (would definitely NOT recommend)
  • Walking everywhere (I’d suggest getting a taxi or even renting a bicycle)

The best advice I can give you is: watch your belongings like a hawk (especially when going on a trip to the interior), always pay attention to your surroundings when walking anywhere (and always secure your bag), ask a local you can trust for advice when planning something or going somewhere and always keep your important stuff with you (for example: I have a hidden pocket in my jacket).

I am open to any DM’s so feel free to contact me if you need any advice or help planning your trip.
