Yoga outdoors
Living in one of the greenest countries in the world, has a lot of benefits. A nice backyard or a quiet spot outdoors aren’t hard to find. Practicing yoga in nature offers multiple benefits for physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The fresh air, the warmth of the sun, and the sounds of nature create a serene and calming atmosphere that enhances your sense of well-being. Nature provides a sensory-rich environment that encourages mindfulness and presence in the moment.
Practicing yoga on natural terrain, such as grass, sand, or earth is a good way to ground yourself and connect to the earth beneath you. This connection can promote a sense of stability, balance, and inner peace, helping to cultivate a deeper sense of harmony within yourself and with the environment. And the beauty of it all is you don’t even need a teacher or a class, YouTube is your best friend!
So, roll out your mat, breathe in the fresh air, and let the natural world inspire and support your yoga journey.
The Paramaribo Zoo
The Paramaribo Zoo is a great place to walk around, with and without children, to relax and enjoy looking at/interacting with the animals. The donkeys are very friendly. Make sure to visit, the animals will appreciate it!
It’s in the city and the animals really need your love, support and donations!

To the creeks
Suriname’s creeks are more than just bodies of water; they are lifelines that sustain the rich biodiversity of the region. It’s well known that the water is black and that comes as a shock to most foreigners but YES, the water is safe to swim in and NO, nothing is going to bite you.
The water gets its black color from the leaves that fall from the trees covering the creeks. Over time and with the number of leaves that fall into these creeks the water changes color as they wither away.
There are a lot of recreational resorts along various creeks in Suriname where you can go for a day or spend the night. Check out this previous blog post of mine for more info:
